From Monday, 29 August until October 2022, Roosevelt Avenue in Oranga will temporarily become a one-way street for all traffic, to allow locals to move safely through the neighbourhood while we work to upgrade phone and power connections, footpaths and street lighting.

One lane will be closed at a time so that there will be on-street parking available for residents while we work. This system also allows us to complete the work faster, so we can minimise disruption for everyone who lives on or passes through Roosevelt Avenue.

How will the temporary one-way system work?

The temporary system will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Traffic will initially flow down Roosevelt Avenue from Namata Road to Waitangi Road, while we work on 1-49 Roosevelt Avenue. The entry point to the one-way street during this time will be via Namata Road.

Then, when work moves to 4-44 Roosevelt Avenue, the one-way traffic will flow in the opposite direction, from Waitangi Road to Namata Road. The entry point will shift to Waitangi Road.

We will let locals know when the one-way traffic direction changes, via letterbox drop, signage, and our Facebook page.

More about the work we are doing

The work we are doing on Roosevelt Avenue and surrounding streets will replace and upgrade the existing infrastructure, so that the neighbourhood remains a great place to live now and into the future.

The work includes:

  • Adding new underground phone and power connections
  • Removing overhead lines and poles on Roosevelt Avenue, Bow Place and Melville Place
  • Improving streets, including upgrading footpaths and installing new street lights

Check out the frequently asked questions below. If you need further information, please pop into the Oranga Development Information Centre at 34 Oranga Avenue from Wednesday to Saturday, 10am-4pm. Or, get in touch with Piritahi on 0508 PIRITAHI or oranga@piritahi.nz.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we carry out important work to ensure Oranga remains a great place to live, now and in the future.

ROOSEVELT AVENUE TEMPORARY ONE-WAY TRAFFIC PLAN - FAQS

Who is doing the work?
Piritahi, a Kāinga Ora Alliance partner, is doing the work. Piritahi has been working in Oranga since 2019 to deliver infrastructure upgrades so more warm, dry homes can be built.

Why are we doing it?
The one-way system enables one lane on Roosevelt Avenue to stay free, so traffic can move more freely while we work on one side of the street at a time.

What are the hours of construction?
Construction will be happening during the hours of 7:30am-6pm, Monday to Friday. Construction will happen between 7:30am-4pm on Saturdays only when required for critical work.

What about on-street parking?
This temporary arrangement will ensure that there is on-street parking available in the closed lane, outside of the construction zones. These arrangements may change from time to time while we are working in the area.

Will I be able to reach my home by car?
If you live in the area, it may take a few minutes longer than usual to reach your home by car. If your vehicle access is impacted by our work, we will work with you beforehand to ensure your needs are met.

Will I still be able to walk around the area?
Pedestrian access will not be affected - this means access to all homes will be maintained throughout the duration of construction work. Pedestrians will still be able to walk through and around the area.

What do I do about my rubbish bins?
If you live on Roosevelt Avenue, please place your rubbish bins on the berm of the lane that is still open to traffic. This will ensure your collection still takes place while the one-way system is in place.
