The game wasn’t over when the final whistle blew at Fergusson Park. Instead, the rolling maul made its way to the Oranga Development Information Day.
After a home match for tamariki at Te Papapa Onehunga Rugby Club, it was time for face painting, ice cream and Lego. Meanwhile, parents from both sides of the pitch enjoyed a coffee from Michaela’s Coffee Van and learned about changes to the Oranga Development masterplan, new homes for sale and upcoming projects. The Oranga Development Team talked through the latest changes to the Masterplan which introduces multi-modal paths as a way of improving connections through the community.
More than 200 people attended throughout the day, with Caleb and the team from the Haere Mai Welcome to Oranga Initiative helping to set up and providing facepainting for children and LEAD Alliance who brought Mr Whippy along for all to enjoy.
Then it was over to Jenni and her volunteers from Fletcher Building for some kai from the barbeque, and where they ran popcorn machines “from start to finish without a break,” says Rosita Faavesi Sua, Kāinga Ora Community Development and Engagement Coordinator.
“This event was a great way for residents and our wider community to learn about the benefits of our development, such as improved infrastructure, enhanced public spaces, increased housing options and new amenities that will contribute to the overall quality of life in Oranga,” Rosita says.
Events like this help strengthen our connection to the community by providing the most up to date information on our plans for urban regeneration in Oranga, she says.
“We believe in fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment where everyone has the opportunity to contribute their thoughts and ideas to the development plans,” Rosita says.
“Their support is vital as we work together to create a vibrant and thriving community.
“By participating in these initiatives, we can all build a better Oranga for all.”
