About

Oranga was first developed in the 1940s as a social housing area. Over the decades some of those homes have passed into private ownership, so the area now has a mix of private and social housing. Over the next five years, Oranga’s streets will be upgraded and around 1,300 new homes will be built. They’ll be a mix of standalone, apartments, duplexes and terraced homes in a range of plans to suit families of all shapes. All homes will be built to meet high sustainability measures to ensure they are warm and cost-effective to maintain and many of the homes for sale will be in the more affordable range. Renovating the neighbourhood

Developing at such a large scale also gives us the opportunity to renovate the neighbourhood and Oranga will benefit from some upgrades that will make it an even better place to live. Power lines are being moved underground, new, wider footpaths will be built, new walkways will link cul de sacs with main roads, underground infrastructure is being renewed and future-proofed for Oranga’s residents, and the entrances to Fergusson Domain are being improved so that the community has better access to the park and playground.

These upgrades will make Oranga more beautiful, more walkable, safer for people of all ages, and a more desirable place to put down roots and to bring up a family.

Why we're investing in Oranga

Auckland needs more homes for more people, more quickly. Kāinga Ora is underway with a number of large scale development projects across the city as part of our Urban Development programme. The Oranga Development is one of these projects. We’ve chosen Oranga for development because of its central location, excellent proximity to employment hubs, good public transport connections and because the social housing in the area is aging and needs to be renewed.

Oranga Development is one of the smaller, more boutique neighbourhood developments being undertaken by Kāinga Ora and  there is a great deal of interest from locals in the new homes coming to the area. Buying in Oranga is a smart move for those who want to be part of a neighbourhood that is benefiting from significant investment.
